Angela McElroy-Magruder
Her clients call her Angie. She was the first attorney in Augusta, Statesboro and Dublin to earn board certification in consumer bankruptcy. Her cases have produced more than 40 reported federal and state court decisions from 1995 through February 2026, including a published Eleventh Circuit decision and two from the Georgia Court of Appeals. Clients come to her when their home or paycheck is on the line, and she fights for them. Outside the courtroom, she is an artist, a beekeeper, and a devoted animal rescuer.

About Angie
She knows this work, and she does not back down.
Angie has spent her career standing between Georgia families and creditors that are trying to overwhelm them. Bankruptcy has been the center of her work for decades. She knows the law, knows the courts, and understands how fast one bad notice can put a home or paycheck at risk.
Angie has been Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification since 2007. She was the first attorney in Augusta, Statesboro and Dublin to earn that certification. Today she helps clients at all three offices use Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 to protect what they can and move forward.
Plenty of lawyers file bankruptcy cases. Angie litigates them. She has gone toe to toe with some of the country's biggest mortgage companies, banks and debt buyers when they pushed Georgia families too far, and her cases have made the law books more than 40 times since 1995.
In 2024, a bankruptcy trustee tried to take away a client's doubled Georgia homestead exemption. Angie fought the objection and won. The court agreed that her client could keep the full exemption. In another case, a used-car dealer refused to return a client's repossessed car after he filed bankruptcy. Angie took the dealer to court and won a $7,300 judgment for her client.
About half of her overall practice is devoted to litigation.

Author
Angie wrote The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Changes the Name of the Game for Mortgage Lenders and Servicers for lawyers working through the new federal rules. The 36-page paper covers escrow errors, force-placed insurance and the information borrowers can demand from a mortgage servicer.
Beyond the courtroom
Artist, beekeeper, and the person who takes in the dogs nobody else will.
Angie is an artist, keeps honey bees, and has spent years helping neglected animals. She also served as vice president of the Richmond County Animal Control Board of Advisors.
Her home has quietly become a permanent sanctuary for the dogs no one else would take, the ones who were never going to find another home. She gave them one anyway, for good. It matters a great deal to the firm, and you may have met some of them in our television commercials.
